It Has Been a Week of Joy and Sorrow Woven Fine

Members and friends,

It has been a week of joy and sorrow woven fine, as many weeks are. The sun has been beautiful and the heat oppressive. I am still lifted up by the celebration of our children and RE program last Sunday, but have also been distressed by the increased presence of ICE again in Portland this week. How is it with your spirit?

This Sunday your Worship Committee leads service and they’ll reflect on the role of fun in our lives. I am taking off on my own fun adventure, and I am sure I will bring back stories to share! Lucy and I are traveling up to Cape Breton Island, off the coast of Nova Scotia, to run the Cabot Trail Relay. CTR is a 185 mile, 17 stage relay race through the Cape Breton Highlands National Park (the photo above shows the Cabot Trail). The race begins Saturday morning and ends Sunday morning. Runners race through the night and it’s quite an operation with complex logistics and the type 2/type 3 fun of pushing bodies to their limits surrounded by a quirky and positive community of outdoorsy people and a beautiful backdrop. We both have night legs, so it will be exciting!

May Sunday’s service give you a change to reflect on what having fun brings to your life… people? A certain feeling? A little bit of risk? We can swap stories on the other side. Since I’ll be in Canada I will be out of cell range and without email until I return to work on Tuesday. If you need anything you can reach out to one of our Board leaders.

May fun find you this weekend, whether it be a grand adventure or brief moment of joy. And until we’re together again, may your days be blessed.

In faith,

Rev. Tara
